This is something new that I will be introducing on Originally I was going to continue writing Anime reviews, but then I thought about how many people already have a blog doing just this. In order to move away from the majority, I will instead do reviews of characters, and to a latter extent include a small biography as well. To give it a brief introduction, I will include a list of topics and a general format for how I will write these reviews. As always, these posts will be spoiler-free unless blatantly stated otherwise.

The character review series will start shortly! Hurray!

There are three things that I will be analyzing mainly: 1) Significance to the story, 2) Role of the character, and 3) Type of character. Of course, there are some explanations in order and you will find that below.

1. Level of significance to the story:

The number of characters in an Anime vary depending on each series, ranging from just one to almost an infinite amount if you include series such as Bleach, Naruto, or One Piece. Analyzing certain characters and how much of an impact they have on the series will allow me to explain a bit on why or how I think the Anime does well/poorly. With any story, it can only be carried so far by the characters and how accurate they can portray it.

2. Role of the Character:

One of most important aspects in the role of a character is how they interact with the others. This is somewhat similar to the previous point, but I want to explore this a little further and examine the ultimate goal in the character’s role. Are they the selfish protagonist that only aims to fulfill their own purpose? Are they the deuteragonist that tries hard to please everyone? The antagonist that wants to see the cast suffer? The dynamics between characters often dictate the story, which can lead to some very twisted plots or heated situations.

3. Type of Character:

Synonymous to character personality, this is basically analyzing the who, what, when, where, and why’s of a character. Voice actors and actresses bring life to their characters through words, actions and reactions, thoughts, movements, feelings, expressions, and mannerisms. By going through some of these categories, we can begin to understand the meaning of the character (or maybe the irrelevance to the anime).

So that covers the 3 main parts of the character analyses that I will be doing. This is still relatively new to Yumestate, so there’s always the possibility of adding more information and more to analyze in the future. As always, if you have any suggestions or want to recommend some characters to do a character analysis on, feel free to leave a comment.
