It’s Halloween time! At least over where I’m at–I’m not sure how widespread this amazing holiday is. But essentially it’s a day to celebrate everything that’s dark and evil in the world! And the best way to do that is to eat candy and dress up as Princess Generica or Man-Spider. Or you could get creative

At any rate, I will be posting about various horror manga over the next few days, as the week winds down to All Hallow’s Eve. For the first day, you will get to learn about…

L∞p! Of course, you’d know that already, if you looked at the title of this blog post.

Now, isn’t L∞p the perfect name for this story? I love how the infinity sign was worked into the title like that. Now, L∞p is fitting because it is about a man who is killed, and every year he finds himself alive once more and getting killed again in the same way. He’s caught in a loop! Just like the movie Groundhog’s Day, only with more dying and less groundhogs.

The story plays out much like an episode of Twilight Zone would, quickly introducing the characters, the haunting situation, and a mysterious, ominous atmosphere. Only this is much more violent than Twilight Zone, and the action is surprisingly awesome. It can be argued this story isn’t so much a horror as it is a supernatural action mystery, but there’s definitely a level of dread and tension conveyed, especially at the beginning of the story.

In L∞p, Master Jean finds himself repeatedly tied up and killed by a group of burglars. The questions are obvious: Why is he stuck in this vicious cycle, and will he ever be able to break free of it? This is a one-shot manga, meaning that the whole story is told in one decent-sized chapter. I think L∞p would make an awesome serial, with some new characters in each story. It doesn’t look like that will be happening, but at least there’s this one to enjoy! L∞p is a good one, and Master Jean is really cool, as you’ll all find out once you read the manga. :>
