For July and August, YumeState is planning on watching and writing about a different anime movie each week. The movies planned for July will be Colorful, Time of Eve (Eve no Jikan: Gekijouban), First Squad: The Moment of Truth, and Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva.

Colorful is a 2010 drama anime film that deals with reincarnation. It is based on a novel by Eto Mori, and has received some great recognitions (such as the Animation Film Award from Mainichi Film Awards). We will be discussing Colorful on July 1st.

Time of Eve also came out in 2010. It is more or less the “extended edition” of a series of short sci-fi OVAs released in 2008 and 2009, which was also titled Time of Eve. The story deals with a future society that includes lifelike human androids. We will discuss Time of Eve on July 8th.

First Squad: The Moment of Truth is an experimental Russian-dubbed anime film that came out in 2009. The movie is set in an alternate history of World War II, and includes segments of live-action “documentary” recounting events in the war. The First Squad discussion will come on July 15th.

Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva also came out in 2009, providing a new mystery for video game star Professor Layton to solve. Our discussion for this movie will arrive on July 22nd.

Here is a little calendar for July’s films. (Artwork by Nagata Ozu.)

Be sure to watch the films in time to discuss them with us each week! Hope you all have a fun summer.
