As the spring season comes to a close, I thought I’d post some thoughts on each of the shows I watched through all the way. Let’s start with the show I looked forward to the most… the second half of Fate/Zero!

Just thought I’d share some random thoughts on all the anime I’ve been watching for the spring 2012 season. I think I’ve tried out more shows this season than I have any other, which I suppose says a lot for how good things are right now. I’ve chosen to stick with six of them–namely the first six on my list here.

“Justice and righteousness can not save the world. I care nothing for them.”

There are a great number of character archetypes out there in the world of fiction, and amongst protagonists it’s generally pretty easy to make the distinction between a hero and an anti-hero. Fate/Zero is pretty unique in how it is overall more about an event rather than a specific character (ie the story is about the Holy Grail War). But if I were to pick out who our protagonist is, it makes sense to go with Kiritsugu. And when I think of Kiritsugu, I don’t think of him as just an example of an anti-hero, but also a Byronic hero.

(Note: Fate/Zero spoilers in this post, up to episode 18.)

Have you caught up with the latest episodes of Fate/Zero? I hope so, because the second half of the series is off to a great start! Episodes 14 and 15 of Fate/Zero bring a spectacular conclusion to Caster’s attack on the city, begun with the cliffhanger that ended the fall anime season. Here’s a list of six of my favorite things about the latest two episodes.

The year is drawing to a close, but before I start any lists for 2011, I thought to write another post for the fall season in particular. I picked four (new) characters I liked for the summer season, so I thought I ought to do something like that for fall as well.

So far six out of seven identities have been revealed for the Servants in Fate/Zero, and this time I will write a bit about the legends behind Caster and Assassin–figures in history that are a bit less known, but are still very interesting.
There will be SPOILERS for their identities, but again I will mainly just focus on some of the interesting facts about the real-life figures.

Today I will be going over some of the basics for the legends that served as the basis for the Lancer and Archer characters in Fate/Zero. So SPOILERS for their identities, but I’ll mostly be focusing on the real-life stories as I did last time for Saber and Rider.

One of the fun things about Fate/Zero is the fact the Servants are (loosely) based on figures from history, myth, and legend, all of which tends to mix together a bit in ancient times. (And arguably still does!) I thought to do some brief research on some of the famous figures that inspired some of the characters in Fate/Zero, and share some of the basic details here.

I will be covering Saber and Rider in this post. So if you haven’t watched much of the show yet, this post will contain some SPOILERS!

We’re around the halfway point for the fall anime season, and I thought I’d mention which shows are my favorites at the moment. So I’ll make this a list, and start with #5 and work my way up from there.
